Rick Lee recently reposted some info on the S3 which included: > At the demonstration later that afternoon, I must say that I was impressed! > This camera has such a wide dynamic range that it really does rival film.
I suppose most people here probably know this already, but digital SLRs already "rival" film. The dynamic range of current SLRs such as the 20D and 1Ds (not to mention the MkII) is already better than slide film, though not as good as negatives. The "meter for the highlights" rule that digital shares with transparency film fooled some people into thinking that digital has a similar dynamic range to slides, but just think about all the detail you can pull out of the shadows of a raw image.
