I'll give this a try since nobody else has yet. I may be wrong in which case hopefully I'll learn something. In the class definition you will find an option, _at_rename_after_creation, which controls this when creating object through the web (TTW). Setting this to False should prevent the id being changed. As I understand it, this has no effect if one is creating objects directly from python, and one must then set the id field explicitly.
