Hi Laurence,

   indeed it seems a problem of a version of Apache/libxml/mod_ssl ... 
or a combination of them. The problem isn't present on my openSUSE box 
too. Thanks for investigating!

For the records: On the RedHat-system I need to deploy the setup I use 
the following proxy chain:

Web <-> Apache <-> nginx <-> Zope
