The laptops I've tinkered with have 3 or 4 screws holding the keyboard in place, lift the spacebar, pull the keyboard away from the screen, and there is a ribbon cable attaching it to the systemboard.
Granted, this isn't as easy as pull cable from back of desktop, but it's been straight forward every time.
