Those data bytes are coming down the wire when I ask for the blob column. Otherwise the db just knows they are there but never really does anything with them. In my case they were jpg format and we needed to put them into a crystal report for one request. Researchers were watching the growth size of the tumor over time. All of these images were "altered" in that a scale measuring ruler was added so anyone could see the size.
