All variables declared in a LOCAL statement are defaulted to .F., which has
always been so.
The problem you're seeing occur has to do with the
lOptInFieldObject.cSignatp property which suddenly gave unexpected results,
probably due to a code change in that area.

I agree with Bill,
The code you've shown can be much more defensive.
Expect the worst! f.i. are you always sure this proc/method will always be
called with a toObject parameter that's indeed an object with the properties
you expect?

Writing this, I realise that you probably ment that you tested this
functionality in the IDE and didn't get the error, wile when running the
compiled exe you did that didn't occur in VFP8-?
Maybe you have the code that's filling the cSignatp property in a
conditional block which is run when VERSION() (or even VERSION()) or
_VFP.StartMode has a specific value?
