Dominic, I fear you have over-imbibed the tainted Kool-Aid.
You have been brainwashed.
Let's look at things from another perspective. If a lab rat's welfare
is just as important as a human's, then YOUR welfare is just as
important as a lab rat's. Or a fly. A mosquito!
Before we become so obsessed with animal welfare, why don't we tackle
man's inhumanity to man? There are countless humans who are "dumped on"
every day and many of them feel helpless to do anything about their
plight. They feel they were born to be at the bottom of humanity.
Frustrated and unable to cope with it, some of them take their inner
hostilities out on animals. Perhaps if there was a PeTH, we would not
need a PeTA.
Not that it matters in the UK but in the USA, our Constitution
specifically prohibits "cruel and unusual" punishment for persons
convicted of committing crimes. Yet many Americans favor the death
penalty.
Hi Hal!
If the criminal is killed he/she does not repeat the crime. If I were
governor I would sign every death warrant with conditional clemency -
that the condemned person was to be executed immediately if the
condemned person ever appealed (except with dna evidence that he/she
couldn't have done it), caused any trouble or tried to escape.
In other words, the jury and judge condemned them, but if they shut up,
stay in prison and behave I would let them live.
Regards,
Pete
