Hi folks,
Been dinking around with various things on a new Knoppix box. Well, it's
not 'new', it's about three weeks old - the same one I bin dumping all
my new distros on.
Turns out I had a bad 1 GB SDRAMM in it, which was causing all sorts of
obscure errors. Kinda felt like I was back with Windows. :)
Anyway, I pulled that SDRAMM out and the box is humming along. I had
been loading Knoppix into a ramdisk since I had 2 GB, but after I pulled
the second one, I though I wouldn't have enough room. Wrong-o.
If you have at least a GB of RAM, try
boot: knoppix toram
It takes about 8 minutes to load up, but wow, response is immediate. No
more waiting for the CD to spin up. Very nice.
Note, though, if you use other boot options, it appears they have to go
before the 'knoppix' parm. For example, to load a fb800x600 video, I had
to do this:
boot: fb800x600 knoppix toram
