I wouldn't demonize all people of the Islamic faith; because, by and large, the vast majority of the people of the ME are just like you and I, people who want to live and let live. They have no big deals going on about bring American down or death a destruction to all peoples who are not exactly like themselves. It is the religious/political extremist that are the problem.

There is more than enough contention among the different flavors of the Islamic religion, before Islamist even get to Christianity. For example the Shite, Sunni , and Kurds branches of the Islamic religion are at civil war with one another in Iraq, which is claiming around 100 lives per day from violence. 100 lives per day times 365 days is 36,500 lives annually. The civil war in Iraq is not like the great US civil war between the North and South with easily identified armys that meet upon battlefields that were strategic locations of value in winning a war.

The civil war in Iraq does not fall along easily defined boundaries. It is a war of neighbor against neighbor, family against family, brother against brother, police officer and police officer, militia against militia. The US has been caught in an occupation of Iraq during a period of civil war, but who should the US forces support, the Shite, the Sunni, or the Kurds? If we are not in Iraq to support one of these factions, then perhaps we are their to act as referees to insure the rules of civil war a followed. Who can tell me the rules of combat for civil wars?

I think the US is in Iraq to protect its pulpit government, but the winner of the civil war will eventually dictate and institute a government of its own choosing, and whether the Shite, Sunni, or Kurds win the civil war, the government that emerges will likely not be Democratic or pro America. The Bush Administration has painted itself into a corner with no viable options for its military presents in Iraq, and demoizing the people of the Islamic religion will not hind the fact of a failed strategy and policy.

The first Patriots, who brought forth our great nation, were willing of
risk their live for freedom and independence. Their battle cry; the
battle cry of the American Revolution, was "Give me liberty, or give me
death". How many of today's so called patriots are willing to risk
their live to obtain/maintain liberty and freedom?

I think that our founding fathers had passion for their change. We came
up with new ways to show our displeasure to our leadership across the
pond. Boston Tea Party comes to mind as a prime example, yet that was
one of many ways.

Currently our enemy in the ME has a similar passion to achieve success. They take it a step beyond our history because theirs is by definition a
decree from Allah. One sect will destroy another sect while both hold
claim to a direct line to Muhammad.
On the way into work this morning I heard an interview with a journalist
who has done multiple stays in Iraq over the past 10 or 15 years. He
says that today as a seller of produce, if you happen to arrange
products that SUGGEST sexuality, you can be killed. And that activity
is being enforced today. I was laughing at the memory of "Animal
House" where the frat guy picks up the college presidents wife in the
produce section of the market. Amazing how different two societies can
be.
