I know of 4 packages that are going to be victims where the users don't
have a clue they have MSDE.  Granted they companies that put them out
may present updates.  These were all in support products for mfg apps
that I saw at Parker Hydraulics.  From the EM I could see these MSDE
servers but I know that the users had no idea they were even installed
on the XP workstations.

I noticed that they didn't say that the existing products won't work; only that they won't be supported. They say that customers "should consider" upgrading.

Sounds to me like they're trying to scare people into contributing more to Microsoft's upgrade revenue stream.
