I, on the other hand, have found doing my own locking has been a life-saver and I never seem to run into those 'view issues' or buffering issues others seem to get.
If you want to find out which records are specifically locked, you can use the ISRLOCK() function. Note that it has several parameters to optionally look at specific record numbers, specific work areas/aliases, etc.
