Even better - the quick version of a true story:
Bought a Datsun 260Z
Took it a mechanic to get it smogged
The guy had it 2 1/2 months -- seldom did anything on it
I finally cornered him and he "finished the job"
Got a bill for over $3000.00 and a smog certificate
$1500+ for "installing smog gear"
$1500+ for bottom end rebuild had to have to pass smog
2 years later I took it to get it smogged again
Mechanic told me "NOTHING is hooked up on this car!"
Referee gave me wonderful certificate as a "Gross Polluter"!
Sued original guy in small claims court for the amount of the lowest
estimate
I got to install smog gear; $1900.00
(High estimate was $6600)
I lost...
Car's been stored ever since...

Two hours later. We found oil residue in your radiator fluid and
it's not
supposed to be there. We are now looking at the rebuild costing
480.00 in
parts and 1,800 for the labor.
