I doubt if there is any compatibility to speak of, IOW you cannot save 
the registry and you cannot do a 'repair' installation, which are the 
main ways you avoid reinstalling everything.  Looks like it's a clean 
install (you probably don't need to reformat, tho).

Standard install time.  My experience is 1-2 hours, plus whatever you 
have to do with apps.  If we're talking about a brand new machine, then 
that's it.
