Where is the application installed? It is probably related to Windows 7,
either Rights or Virtualization of the folder where the EXE is being
updated.  
Though, it could be the anti-virus with heuristic behavior checking seeing
an attempt to overwrite a file. In my experiences, this usually will cause
the update application process to be stopped.
