Were using a Netgear Networked Attached Storage server which uses Linux as its operating system. Has worked out REMARKABLY well although isn't as fast as a full-blown server. I've not had problems with locked records up til now.
I think I know why it's crashing, but it still shouldn't maintain a lock once its shut down.
