I took a look at namespace.com, and their prices seem cheaper than
directNIC. I wonder if you have to have your web/mail/db server hosted
by namespace.com to take advantage of their low rates?

DirectNIC might be better for those who are up to running their own
web/mail/db server from home, like me. I enjoy the convenience of
having my server just step away from my desktop. My web based apps run
on a Linux server and are written using perl, html, javascript, and CSS
both inline and regular. I particularly like being able to use
mod-perl, which makes a very fast perl even faster. Most ISP do not
offer mod-perl as part of any of their plans, and running my own server
is much cheaper than paying for a dedicated server hosted under the
control of an ISP.
