Heya MM - Well - it's like this - [for a windows machine] First you have to have a dial up account with an ISP. Then you configure DUN [Dial Up Networking] with that ISP's information. [dial up telephone number, your username and password]
Then you CLICK on the Connect To.. Entry for the new DUN entry that you made. If you are in a hotel / timeshare - you might get lucky and have a data port / jack on the phone. If that's the case - connect your Modem INTO that jack via the telco cable you brought with you (RJ-11 to RJ-11 ONLY). If that's not the case - be wary - as some phone systems will fry a modem . You can't just remove the cable at the wall and jack in with your computer. You will probably have to dial some digits first to get an outside line. MOST DSL providers give you a free dial up account, at anywhere from 20 hours/month to unlimited hours. You are gonna need a dial up account to make a dial up connection work, of course. Did you leave the house without a dial up account ? [if you are on a linux machine] take a look at kppp and get your stuff set there. If you don't know anything about your modem - maybe its a good time to give up and pay attention to the timeshare marketing commitee ?
