I tried it several years ago, but the lack of printing (to paper) was a deal breaker for me.

(And if it DOSBOX is able to print to paper printing devices, then either I didn't realize it at the time or couldn't find a way, or maybe I'm remembering it wrong.)

I used to use DOSBox to run WordStar. I never needed printing so I did not hassle with it. (There are builds that will print. The standard build will not.)

WordStar ran fine. (However, I found VDE (a WordStar-compatible editor) which I now use instead except for the odd case when a file is too big for it.)

The DOSBox developers make it very clear that DOSBox is for games. They make no guarantees that DOSBox will work with non-games. If you ask for something that is not required by a game, you will get a no.

I use WordStar 5.5 with bitstream fonts under FreeDos/4DOS with success. Q1: Why do you use VDE instead of Wordstar? Q2: I also use WordStar under Ubuntu/Dosemu with success. Can we solve the printing issue by running Ubuntu/Dosemu and FreeDos/4DOS under a virtual machine? (go to the FreeDOS4DOS instance to print the documents (we spend most of our WS use editing and viewing documents, not printing them.)?
