Hi Richard:

I've used VSS integration with VFP from late 90's, so I really understand
the difficulty of leaving it go :-)

But guess what? You can live without it. I've tried, and it was a costly
change, specially the change of mind because you develop in the IDE and
checkin/checkout on another tool feels "strange" :)
With some practice and open mind I've realized that was not so difficult at
the end, and that the project (pjx) opens really fast without the SCM
integration.
The really hard part, is changing your mind about the file "blocking". You
first think you "need it", you can't live without seen "who have this file
checked out?" Didn't you? :-)

At a short time without VSS, I've appreciated the value of "not blocking"
files, so developers can work at the same time in any component. It's
really a challenge.
