Hey, start your own thread! If you want to use software that will last for decades, maybe you should find an OS where you can control what it does and doesn't run, like Open Source DosBox and FreeDOS. They run well on Linux.
Commercial and proprietary OSes are going to do what they want to do, not what necessarily what you want.
