Half right, I think :)

You can get free calls in the US without PhoneGnome box purchase by
using your regular phone to call other people who have registered their
phone number(s) with PhoneGnome. Registration is free. You use a web
page to make your calls, PhoneGnome calls you, when you answer, it calls
the other party and connects you both. All for free. No hardware. No
software. If you want to call non-PhoneGnome users, I think its 1 cent a
minute in the US and slightly more overseas.

The great thing is that all of this is done over your standard POTS
telephone line without any VoIP problems, no need to change phone
numbers, and you keep your existing 911 service.

The PhoneGnome box is based on the non-proprietary SPA3000 VoIP box used
by many VoIP carriers - but with a much better user interface. The
PhoneGnome box figures out whether its cheaper to use VoIP or your
standard phone service for each call and transparently routes your call
accordingly.

The downside to PhoneGnome is that you don't get an extra phone number
like you do with traditional VoIP services like Vonage.

I think you may be able to get around this limitation by purchasing a
SkypeIn and/or SkypeOut phone number linked to your PhoneGnome account.
Disclaimer: This last sentence is where I begin to get lost. :)
