A quick check confirmed this:
USE "\\Mybookworld\public\logfile.dbf"
- took maybe 1/4 second longer than opening the same (small) file on the local drive.

btw I'm a great fan of these WD devices - had one of them running for 18 months without a hitch - and just bought another on ebay for £15 (older model but with a 1 Tb drive). I use them for backup, general NAS storage, media server and as a proxy server.
