My 2nd year of ISV expired in July 2006. I opted to not go for the Gold Certification (big wampum $$$). Just the other week I was offered a renewal of ISV for a 3rd year for $375 (plus sales tax), no strings attached. I just got my new MSDN kit the other day. It really is a great deal. And M$ gets a shot at encouraging more M$ products being used by developers as opposed to losing developers to non-M$ alternatives. I did not ask for the 3rd year, it was likely done to re-encourage me to stay with M$ development tools.
