So are mob emotions like envy, greed, anger, and a large number of fatuous but
popular academic theories that have nothing to do whatever with God. For
instance, the labor theory of value combined with Hegel's dialectic (i.e.,
dialectical materialism), which laid waste to an incalculable quantity of real
and potential wealth and brought bloodshed to many continents across the planet
in the 20th in the name of "social progress". Or in the other extreme, Ayn
Rand's notion of "selfishness as a virtue" which, again, has nothing to do with
God (she was an avowed atheist who lumped Christians with Communists) and has a
huge following among libertarians and "fiscal conservative" types in the
country club wing of the Republican party, who probably think the same way
about religious people that you do.

Your singling out of religious people, or anyone who approaches metaphysics
with an open mind that doesn't assume 5 senses are all that are required to
grasp reality in its fullest, and the blanket statement that they're simple
minded is... well, simple minded.
