What are the operating systems in question ? There was an issue recently with an update to Windows 10 1803 causing weird DBF problems due to SMB caching, which I believe are fixed in Windows 10 1809.
Another thing it could be is the Windows Server indexing service which may be on and indexing everything depending on what flavour of Windows Server it is.
