Hi Paul,

I ship a vertical market app and have over 6000 sites running our latest
product version.

Since I use several other COM and ActiveX third party tools I register the
product.

I do not use this method myself, though I have thought about it.
Here's a link that Chilkat shared with me about side-by-side registry free
COM with Chilkat
http://cknotes.com/regfree-com-using-ocx-files-with-sxs-technology-in-vb6/

I ran in to the unlock code not working because we didn't keep our
subscription active. That was something that got dropped in to a crack and
forgotten. It happened when one of our customers installed an application
that installed a newer version of the Chilkat control.

If you feel that you don't want to keep the subscription active, you should
consider the registry free COM method. If you are building with VFP 9 SP2
you should be able to have the manifest file somewhere that it builds in to
the EXE when you build.

Hopefully someone else that also uses the Chilkat control could also chime
in.

Have Fun!
Tracy

Subject: Using Chilkat Tools with VFP

All,

I have a project in the prelim stages which will require automating a
process to pull various files from API's using SOAP and then storing the
results via ODBC to a SQL database. I'm looking at purchasing the Chilkat
toolkit to help me with some of the XML and web connectivity that will be
required. I know Tracy Pearson has posted positive comments about Chilkat
and I reviewed prior messages posted here on the ProFox list and I'm feeling
fairly confident it will provide what I need.

However, I'd like some folks to provide their thoughts about the ease of
implementation, distribution and maintenance of the library at the client
level. I saw a couple of comments about unlock codes not working, etc and I
just thought some additional information about the practical aspects of
using Chilkat would be helpful.

Thanks in advance!
