My SUV (2005 Suzuki XL-7, excellent vehicle, less than 19,000 miles on it)
gets about 17mpg around town, and 20mpg on the open highway. I am a fairly
conservative driver. So (excluding increasing fuel prices over the next 50+
years) the Tesla, in my case, will not "pay for itself" by the time I am
about 125 years old. But, if I purchase a Tesla using funds acquired from
the rampant increase in housing values in SoCal (yes, the market will come
back, it always does) then what is it to me? The very idea of a relatively
simple 70 pound electric motor being able to propel that vehicle as
efficiently (and quickly) as it does, as compared to a complex air-fuel
burning engine that weighs several hundred pounds, is very appealing to me
from a pure technical perspective. It would be like me riding around in one
the the slot cars I used to have as a kid (my favorite was a Coke Bottle
Cheeta side-winder model), except a bit larger and far faster (and much more
costly).

The logic circuits to manage the distribution of electrical power must be
quite complex, and very interesting unto itself as well. I wonder what kind
of specs can be uploaded from the machine's computer systems onto a laptop.
Oooo00, I really am feeling the love here, folks!
