James,
1. What are you using for the DHCP Server 2K3 or other (router etc)?
2. Have you got one of the servers set with an invalid lease time.
You could always try assigning a specific address per MAC address just to
see if the problem goes away. If you find that the IP address doesn’t match
how you have defined it then there is another DHCP Server on the lan
somewhere.

3. Does your server have two network cards in it belonging to two subnets?
If so then the client may well gavhe used interfact A to get an IP address
belonging to to network A. However if the client is actually connected to
the network where the second interfact (card) belongs you will see these
messages.

3. If all else fails assign static IP addresses.

For more Info on why you can get DHCPNACKs see:

Subject: [NF] Problematic DHCP

The last couple of weeks our users have been having issues getting logged on
to our domain due to IP address not being assigned properly (169 rather than
a 192)

The system event log shows the following error message with an Event ID of
1002:

"The IP address lease %1 for the network adapter with MAC address %2 has
been denied by the DHCP server %3 (The DHCP server sent a DHCPNACK
message)."

We thought it was a rogue router with DHCP turned on but it turns out that
wasn't the case.

If we do the "repair" through the GUI, or ipconfig /release&renew at the
command prompt we can usually get the user a valid IP address and they're
good to go, until the next time they need to log on.

We can't see where anything on the DHCP server that appears obviously out of
norm...

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

TIA
