You're missing two very important points

Software.

I use quicken home and business the majority of my time.
I use qcharts or esignal for trading

Competency

The majority of people cannot even program their vcr or clock radio.
Do you really think they will make the effort that converting to linux will
take ??
Not to mention maintaining it.

For a operating system to take over the windows world, it has to be friendly
and bullet proof.
At the current time, the only one that could do it is the mac.

        The "too many choices" argument is about as bogus as you can get.  
Most Windows users can't even name one. They don't try to switch to  
Linux, get overwhelmed, and then come running back to Windows. They  
don't even think about it at all.
