I have purchased a couple of Dell laptops in the last couple of months with XP,
and it is their
current line of Vostro machines (not old models still hanging on the shelves).
The machines were
$1400 and $1650. 2ghz Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM, 160GB drives, writable DVD, 4 USB
ports, wireless,
Bluetooth, firewire, couple of small brick power adapters, couple of batteries,
matte screens (I
really dislike the glossy/glare screens). Nice machines, but if I was buying a
real development
machine it would have cost $2200 because I want the 1920x1200 resolution. Still
reasonable compared
to the machines I have purchased in the last few years.

To get XP you have to purchase through the business line. Consumers don't have
access to this, which
is complete baloney. Each time I buy I make sure to tell the manufacture they
need to offer XP to
everyone.

The best part of the purchase is I can get these machines clean: no virus
protection, no
firewall/security suite, no office, no crappy sample apps to uninstall, no AOL.
They also will
partition the primary drive into two drives, which is the first thing I do
anyway.
