FWIW, I've been upgrading my Mac's and Linux systems in place for several years now, with no troubles. I haven't tried Leopard yet (not sure I want to shell out the $$$ when I'm happy with Tiger) but from what I've read I'll have no issue if I choose to go down that road. I just upgraded from Ubuntu Feisty to Gutsy yesterday, using Synaptic. There was a minor glitch with my python installation, but all I needed to do was remove a .pth file from site-packages to resolve it, and then I could continue the upgrade with no errors. Ubuntu Gutsy (7.10) is truly a nice system to work on. Same with OS X Tiger (10.4). I'll eventually get around to trying Windows Vista as it is inevitable that one of my clients will have to get it with a new system one day. I think the only thing that Windows impresses me with compared to Linux/Mac is application load time, at least on a freshly loaded Windows installation. You double-click on an icon and a subsecond later you get the application loaded and running, especially Microsoft apps. You can't say that with Mac and Linux apps. However, once loaded I think response time is basically the same. I can't think of anything else that Windows brings to the table, other than being ubiquitous that is. -- pkm ~ http://paulmcnett.com _______________________________________________ Post Messages to: ProFox@leafe.com Subscription Maintenance: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profox OT-free version of this list: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profoxtech Searchable Archive: http://leafe.com/archives/search/profox This message: http://leafe.com/archives/byMID/profox/[EMAIL PROTECTED] ** All postings, unless explicitly stated otherwise, are the opinions of the author, and do not constitute legal or medical advice.
