Running whatever it is you need to capture in a virtual machine can also 
make it easier. For example, I have done some writing about Ubuntu. I 
ran it in a Virtual PC, then I could drop down a list or menu and 
position the mouse cursor nicely on it, then Right-Alt to switch out of 
the virtual machine, leaving the screen intact, i.e. menu dropped down 
and mouse pointer positioned. Then on the 'real' PC I just use MWSnap 
and draw a rectangle around the relevant area of the Virtual PC window 
and that gets me a nice cap of the dropped down menu plus the mouse 
pointer on it.
