Tried rebuilding the TCP/IP stack? After resigning yourself to the fact 
that if this busts it even worse IT'S NOT MY FAULT :)

... but this has sorted serious networking probs on XP for me it 
presumably will still work on Vista.

netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt
