Larry,
I was not condoning any of Marx work, simply extracting a quotation which
seems very apt in the current religious context.

As for comparing the current Islamofascism to the RC church, I think that
the comparison is very justified. Both have bred intolerant extremists who
seem to wield the power within both cults/organizations.

I don't "Hate" religion as much as the total fanaticism it breeds amongst
its members who ALL seem to believe that they are the "chosen few". Hence, I
include the christian, jew and muslim faiths as well as others under that
same banner.

As for past experiences, then yes my past life and experiences do affect my
decision making both now and the future - to the better I hope. What is
wrong or sad with that, as long as the effect is beneficial to others around
me? History is effective in teaching us the lessons of the past as is
experience in life itself. I am not bitter or revengeful about things I have
seen and experienced, simply saddened in that many people seem unable to
learn tolerance and understanding. I am a great believer in learning by
making mistakes and henceforth trying never to repeat them.

All the major faiths of the world, in their pure form, provide a basic
framework for getting along with other people in harmony. A set of "moral
values and principles" shouldn't be the basis of waging war on others, it
should be the way to peace and understanding. Unfortunately, the human
psyche seems delights in making the values and principles fit around their
preferred method of waging war on others for their own personal gains. That
is what is sad.

"Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely" probably sums the
current situation up, as does Winston Churchill's quotation: "The power of
man has grown in every sphere, except over himself."
