Chandler was funded by OSAF, which is Mitch Kapor's group. It was a
very major project, involving over a dozen full-time developers and
several part-timers, and ran for many years. It suffered from the
typical downfall of most such projects: trying to be all things to all
people all at once, instead of a more iterative approach. Finally,
Kapor seemed to grow bored with it, and moved on.

The project is still alive, although with different developers, most
of whom are doing it in their spare time. It ended up benefitting
several other major projects, such as wxPython, which it used for its
UI (as does Dabo). They also supported several internationalization
projects, which were critical to its goal of universal support. E.g.,
they wanted a calendar to display by default in English using US
standards, but by switching it to, say, Thai, it would display
completely differently, not only using Thai translations, but also
displaying text in top-to-bottom, right-to-left format instead of the
English-style left-to-right, top-to-bottom layout.
