Adam,
I do ask the question as to why we are the only country in Europe where
diesel is more expensive. It used to be the other way around before the
government started convincing all of us to change over to diesel. Now they
have us by the knackers they are squeezing hard.

I've just converted my wife's 3 litre Jag to gas at 52p per litre and the
performance/economy is just the same as petrol (maybe 10% less acceleration)
and you can simply leave the switch permanently on gas. The conversion cost
£1,100 and I reckon I'll make that back in 2 years. Regardless though, it
gives you a warm feeling when you can fill up for about £25 again. In
equivalent "costs per mile" I reckon it is doing about 45mpg equivalent as
opposed to petrol when it was doing 23mpg.

No doubt when we get more LPG cars on the road they will up the price the
same as diesel though - you can't win.

Subject: RE: [OT] Why is Diesel More Expensive Than Gas?

You can have my share from December. Like many others, I'm shifting all
my company cars away from it.

With the price now at approx $10 a gallon and changing tax regimes (from
next April) for my Company cars, petrol is now as economical for me to
run as diesel for my sales forces and execs cars.

So come December my diesel will probably be replaced by a petrol Audi
A5....

There are still diesel cars that are very tax efficient to run, but I
don't have anyone that wants to drive a "castrated" BMW 1 series diesel
with a 0-60 time measured in days, especially when most of my drivers do
in excess of 35,000 miles per year...
