"Sarah Palin is a great choice," said Grover Norquist, a Republican activist
best known for his economic conservatism.

"She's got it all, and is a remarkable leader who brings a number of good
qualities to the table," said Wendy Wright, president of Concerned Women for
America.

Although Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt
Romney are still considered the frontrunners for the veep slot (with a
growing hum about former Ohio Rep. Rob Portman), there is a new buzz that
Mr. McCain will make a "transformative" pick outside the mainstream, perhaps
even cross party lines to choose former Democratic Sen. Joe Lieberman.

In other words, McCain can't make up his mind. He's all over the place, and
his public thought process shows what a rudderless, lost-at-sea ship his
conscience really is. (Contrary to his repeated public assurances, it is not
the conscience of a conservative.)

Palin would indeed be an inspirational choice, and I might actually get
excited about the campaign (given that I could finally vote for a woman who
isn't an angry Leftist on social and economic issues, and the likelihood
McCain could kick the bucket at any moment means that his VP pick therefore
has a good chance of becoming a future president). But Lieberman? No offense
but he only agrees with Republicans on a whopping total of one issue, namely
the war (keeping in mind of course that not all Republicans are for it
anymore). Actually, that's about right for McCain too. Maybe the two really
do belong together. Egads.

Somehow I deeply doubt McCain will pick anybody dynamic, conservative and
fresh like Palin. It's just not his instinct, he'll go with whatever he
thinks will make the media and "his friends" across the aisle like him more,
and they'll only like him more if he self-destructs and hands the election
over to Obama without a real fight.

So far that has clearly been his strategy. How else to explain the Lieberman
talk, not to mention this:
