Islam (Muslim) is a religion, just like Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist and Christian. Most adherents to a given religion are moderate. I think all religions have extremists. But by and large most religious adherents are moderate and Islam is no exception. Current events just seem to be playing up Muslim extremists.
Nazism was not a religion. It was a fascist organization.
