Hmmm... Dabo, eh? If it were not for the fact the VFP TranslationEngine app I coded so long ago was such a rock solid app I would be tempted to go dabo out the gate for a pure Linux platform. It would be one less solution layering to fret about. And I do want to migrate my VFP back end to PostgreSQL across the board anyway... I am glad you mentioned Dabo, as it has twisted my thinking re: which direction to go toward a little bit. I could go CrossOver/VFP initially, then once all is running begin to dabble in Dabo - then redeploy.
With my latest set of commercial clients our ramp-up time is tight. One client has 417 dealerships they want to cut to our solution in total before summer. For David and I that is 6 months to do about 70 stores per month, or 3 per day. We can do it if we do not run into any issues. So now is not the time to try to pick up Python and Dabo <g>... The other commercial client has several hundred stores also, but they are in the midst of picking themselves up off the floor after going with a "cheaper outfit" to do what we do early last year. The other outfit took all the up-front money and never delivered a viable solution, then stopped returning calls asking what was going on. So our new commercial client lost about 300 of their installed customers due to the limitations of the "cheap solution", but have about 250 others that they have not yet installed with "the cheaper solution". We had our solution in their first "hot store group" within 5 days, fully functional for all 9 of their dealerships. We get to control how fast those roll out a bit more than the client with 417 stores. Uggghhh... I figure it will be about 4 or 5 store installations per day between both commercial clients. As long as our equipment runs well (and our software), we ought to be fine. I am back to working 1/2 days. You know, 12 hours per day <g>... But all software, no hardware related services. That ended in January 2007 with my pinched nerve, still gives me grief.
