Hi all, It seems to me there was a recent discussion of this topic here but I can't find it in the archives.
I am researching online (web) remote data backup options for my USA-based not-for-profit agency. I need a cross-platform system. Data is stored on a variety of machines running Windows NT 4 Server, Windows 2000 Pro, Windows 2003 Server and CentOS Linux (via SAMBA). I would like the software to reside on one of these machines and be able to pickup, transmit, and restore data from/to all of them from that one location. Note: No XP, No Vista; the software has to run on an older Windows OS, or on a Linux server with a web GUI. I would like incremental backup capability (that is, transmission of only the portion of a file that has changed). I want the backup to run on a daily basis automatically after hours. I need to be able to restore from the web (not from mailed hard media). The total amount of data to be backed up is likely to be in the 30 GB range. The data includes "confidential health information" about people, as defined in HIPAA. The service provider would have to be HIPAA compliant and would probably have to furnish written evidence of such for auditing purposes. Also included would be accounting data. So the provider needs to be absolutely secure with a solid reputation--not a fly-by-night operation. I'd very much appreciate any recommendations from people who have used such software. What did you like, what didn't you like, and what did it cost? Thanks very much for any thoughts.
