We use CommVault and DataDomain. It is very complex and expensive, and I
hope we never need to restore from backup....

They got that. hahahahaha USB is not your gigabit network.

I have a single table of scanned images in the db that is approx 600
gig in size for this client.

I have to chuckle when they < young punk who came up from telcom side
of things> say that they have multiple SANs at this site. Every time
he describes the hardware, it is just a RAID. But he uses the word
SAN a lot. :)

Anyway this client operates on all 4 time zones and they have a lot of
db interaction early in the AM. That is reporting time before the
west coast is even in the office. That gives me 6 hours maintenance
window. The reindex job that runs on weekends takes just under 5
hours now.

I have asked them to test a compression tool in backups but they won't
consider it. Not sure who is queering the idea, maybe just going into
one set of ears and dies a quick and quiet death there?

They will NOT consider diff backups after I get the full one either.
No idea why but NO. Makes me laugh!
