Microsoft have always been masters at manipulating the media. Right
now, they're trying to make some soft news that will keep folks
buzzing. Then, Windows 7 gets released and it will make a big splash,
since the media hasn't been droning on about it. But everyone will
remember, vaguely, that MS said it's all set to go 128-bit (not that
that is what they said).

Microsoft and Edelson, their PR firm, have a lot of experience in this.

A 128-bit file system could be useful. Solaris, and the OpenSolaris
open source project, support the ZFS file system, which has been
128-bit for a while. We've seen presentations at a couple of LUGs
about folks implementing them for a high-speed, high-capacity network
file system. Pretty cool. Rumors of a port to OS X abound. Ports to
Linux would be tougher, as it's a different way of using block devices
than the Linux model.

I'll stick with the FOSS versions, though :)
