I s'pose something is better than nothing, but I wanted to do something
similar a few years ago (in a Linux environment) to test for Services
running.

I gave up when I found that many, many, many times a server will tell
you a service is running just fine, only to have to figure out which one
is wonky to restart it and then see that NOW it is running fine...

Lying bastard machines....
