Here we still use checks.  If a client pays me, I can either deposit it in my 
bank, or I can cash it at his bank.  If I cash it at his bank, I need to show 
ID.  If i withdraw funds from my account from a bank teller, I need to show ID. 
 IF I use an ATM card, I don't.
