I've used and liked Lua over the years. I prefer Python's syntax, but Lua is definitely more lightweight and I can see why one would choose it over Python for specialized scripting needs, especially where performance is favored. I think actually it is almost as easy to learn as Python, but may not have as many "batteries included".
