I think I would do it differently

I would place this in the VALID event
REPLACE RegPay WITH RegHours*payroll.rate
thisform.refresh

I do this in a lot of my grids and and the refresh has never bothered me
In fact, place the refresh.reform in the afterrowcolevent and see how quick
it is
