You can buy a router that uses UTM, (eg "Unified Thread Management", usually provided commercially by a third party). The SonicWALL router is one I looked at recently that provides UTM. I read somewhere that it would costs around $350.00 to buy the SonicWALL TZ100 router, which include UTM for the first year. Then it would cost you around $150.00 per year to maintain the UTM thereafter. If you committed to a 2 or 5 year contract, the annual cost of the UTM would come down somewhat. The SonicWALL TZ 200n includes wireless n, but cost more. It seems like the routers I found, that provided the best security, usually come with slower fast Ethernet ports, and slower wireless b/g, while the more glamorous new routers provide simplicity, better styling, faster gigabit ports and faster wireless n, but not much in the way of security or other built in software options. One disadvantage of running a UTM router is overall throughput could be greatly reduced, and may even impact the local network speed. http://www.sonicwall.com/us/products/TZ_100.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unified_threat_management Regards, LelandJ _______________________________________________ Post Messages to: [email protected] Subscription Maintenance: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profox OT-free version of this list: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profoxtech Searchable Archive: http://leafe.com/archives/search/profox This message: http://leafe.com/archives/byMID/profox/[email protected] ** All postings, unless explicitly stated otherwise, are the opinions of the author, and do not constitute legal or medical advice.
