That's going to be the next headache.
 
There doesn't appear to be any shortcuts for 1/3, 2/3 or 1/8 etc I'm guessing 
this is because they don't appear in the Windows Western character set, they 
are in the Unicode set though.
 
Still need to work out how to give him the rest of these fractions if it is 
possible. 
 
How long has the UK been metric exactly...!!?

In order to replicate what Word,  and other applications,  does/do when
these are typed,  you will have to watch for those character combinations
and convert them.   No client, that I can think of, will type the keystroke
combos in order to directly enter them not would I expect them to.
