Now - John already nailed the answer about the EXE creations. As for the volume thing. Wouldn't it be possible for you to hit a control - and hit it continuously - to control the sound. Meaning, maybe clear the keyboard typeahead after each hit - and yet, keep on polling for the input - or a mouse button press.
