Hello,

I'm looking to get some feedback on personal experiences of eSATA drives,
enclosures and how-to's.

I found what felt like a sweet deal.

Sony Vaio E Series Laptop
17" 1600x900 Display
Intel Core i3 370M 2.4 GHz Dual Core, 4 Threads, Hardware Virtualization
ATI Radeon 512 MB Dedicated Video adapter
500 GB 5400 RPM
4 GB RAM (already upgraded to 8 GB)
Blu-ray and DVD Burner
3 USB
1 USB/eSATA
Memory Stick/SD
ExpressCard
HDMI
VGA
10/100/1000 Ethernet
Wireless B/G/N
Bluetooth

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit OS

Room in the drive compartment to add a second drive, additional connecting
hardware needed.

So, that aside, I connected an Acomdata drive enclosure to the system this
morning on the eSATA port. Nothing happened. Connected power to the drive
externally, drive spun up, nothing on the eSATA port. Windows 7 doesn't
detect anything. Nothing in the BIOS suggesting I need to make a change.
Restarted Windows 7 with the eSATA drive spinning and connected, still
nothing.

I only had a borrowed cable, and there was only one around here this
morning.

So, what might I be needing to check to determine if the laptop needs to go
back, or the drive enclosure is just cheap.

Thanks,
Tracy
